Social media can be a wonderful tool to expand your brand as well as to stay in contact with friends and family. But being on social media for long periods of time can feel like a drag, and in some cases becomes unhealthy. While I applaud those that go to the extreme of deleting all social media, I have gathered a few tips that will make your experience on social media a healthy one.
Unfollow any stores or companies
Following stores and companies just takes up valuable space on your feed. They also just create a desire to spend money. Mindless spending is something that I no longer want to do, so this is something I have been especially working on.
Block people that are bad for your mental health
Whether it is strangers that make disturbing comments or people from your past that have done you wrong or even family members – it is okay to block people. For some reason, society has established this negative connotation on blocking people. Blocking people does not make you a loser nor does it mean that you are weak. It means that you care enough about yourself to get rid of what brings you unpleasant feelings. In the odd case that you run into someone you blocked or deleted, remember you owe no one an explanation for what you do with your social media accounts.
Fill your feed with people that inspire you
Social media can also be used as a source of inspiration. I remember my friend saying that the people she follows on Instagram are the type of people that have the lifestyle she wants to have one day. This immediately stuck with me and I’ve been doing the same. Follow people that inspire you to work towards your goals, but be careful that they don’t make you feel bad about yourself. If you’re having a bad day, then seeing these people on your timeline might make you feel worse. We all know our limits, so keep that in mind if you decide to use this tip.
Remember that social media is for highlights
This is nothing new. While it may seem that everybody else is happy all the time, remember that everyone posts on social media when they are happy. It is rare that a person posts about their downfalls. Our posts are meant to be the good things in life that we want to share with others. You can even use your social media accounts as a way to cheer you up when you aren’t feeling well. They can serve as a gratitude log and remind you of all the good things you have going on.
I like the last point you made becasue sometimes i go on instagram to rant lol! I use it more as a journal sometimes, but i have also been trying to make it into my vision board 🙂
thanks for sharing!

I have been wanting to make my Instagram more like a journal hah! I find that a bit complicated though, it’s not so easy for me to write like a journal entry on my social media
